The second business advice- imitate the successful
Painting is to us an example of an art. Judging based on conventional establishments, we are correct to make that judgement. Everyone considers painting to be a branch of art.
Painting is one of those endeavours that humans have pursued. Like science, astronomy and mathematics it is very popular. Everyone knows this field. It is a topic frequently discussed in the media, textbooks and classroom. There is an academic discipline that is dedicated to the pursuit of the; knowledge, values and skills of painting.
There is something about this very human endeavour. It is a road that humans have plied. History teaches us that humans plied this route. The origin of the embrace by humans dates back to a long time in history. Many who pursued arts failed. But others who did succeeded.
You would find examples of such ones whom were able to; create the best art, attain recognition, gain appreciation and receive patronage. The most notable of those figures is Leonardo Da Vinci. He was able to craft the most successful paint in the world which is the Monalisa, which earned him a reputation as the archetypical example of a painter. No one else has succeeded in painting a paint that surpassed his own in every aspect like the Monalisa.
This is why he is to be placed above all those who succeeded.
There has to be a reason why some succeeded but others failed. It cannot be that those who failed lacked opportunity and resources, for when availed to them, both the same resources and opportunity with the successful most failures failed. It is likely because they did things differently. Their approach to their pursuit were different. They likely took that extra step that helped make a difference in their careers. Or perhaps because they took the right steps, while the failures took the wrong step. But it can't be simply because they were luckier; luck is not the general formula for success. Or likely they were more deligent and persistent to their pursuits. Whatever they did and however they did, if you imitate them you would very much succeed in the art field.
LESSONS FOR ASPIRING BUSINESS MAN
Business is like the arts. Many have plied it. Some succeeded while others failed. If you imitate the successful ones, you would succeed. You are required to make them your mentor. Adopt the; general values, principles methods and general pattern which helped successful ones. It is key to achieving what they achieved.
It is logical to conclude that if you immerse yourself in the production process; by exerting the same efforts Mark Zuckerberg exerted, you would succeed in creating that kind of e-product.
Successful business is like that e-product. There are some that have achieved it. By taking the steps they took, you would get to where they got.
AN EXAMPLE
Peter Tosh, is one of the band mates of the Reggae musician Bob Marley. Both of them excelled very much in this career. At a point in his life, Tosh had not yet succeeded as a musician. But was aspiring to. Then, he didn't know how to play a Guitar. Interested in pursuing a musical career, he considered playing a Guitar important.
Someday, Tosh came in contact with a man who played the Guitar, critically he observed him while he played the Guitar. And afterwards as some alleged Peter Tosh received the Guitar from him, and imitated the way he played it, which he drew from observation and was able to successfully play it.
Tosh was never a business man, but his story illustrates that, by imitating successful business men, aspiring business men, can achieve success. Not only is it applicable to aspiring artists but also to those who are already involved in the pursuit for some time. Perhaps they have not succeeded because they failed to take the steps which the successful ones took.
By imitating him, Tosh was able to succeed. Imitating the successful is like using the same key that helped them to unlock the door to success. Since a key unlocked a padlock, it can always be used to unlock it again and again. As human experience shows you are likely to become like the one you imitate.
Therefore do not imitate the unsuccessful. Identify the mistakes and wrong steps that they took, which made them fail in business. When you avoid them, you have removed from your path all the stumbling blocks, then void of any obstacle your journey would be smooth. You can only avoid them, if you have discovered them. If you have not taken steps to identify them, you may even repeat them.
People have often confessed that they achieved success, by adopting strategies that proved effective. The strategies may be conventional or unconventional, but proved to be effective. When you replicate them in your pursuit, the result would be success. You are required to undertake a study of the successful ones. It could be those that are in the same niche you want to specialize on. Study them with the objective of discovering their unique ways or approach. When you learn, replicate it.
If it were possible, make such ones your teacher. You can choose to learn directly from them. How very helpful the advise they would give you would prove to be.
But never make the unsuccessful your teachers. Since they did not succeed they are not in position to advice you. Do not go to them to draw advise. Infact never go around them, for failure is contagious. When you are inspired by their example, you are likely to repeat the same mistakes they made.
ILLUSTRATION
Two companies produced the same kind of products. Companies A and B. Throughout it's history company A, had been successful in receiving tremendous turnover, more than company B, while B, had always received less. Curios to know why this was so, and desiring to achieve the same success as A, the management of company A, decided to spy on company A; to secretly research the secret of their success.
The products produced by company B, were of the same quality with A's. But company A, had adopted a kind of advertising that involved inordinate exergeration of the benefits of their products. In summary, they projected their product to seem to be something their customers cannot do without, and exaggerated it's benefits; claimed that it possessed more value than it had. People, desiring to enjoy those benefits, patronized their products so much.
Company B, on the other hand was honest about the benefits of their products. Which did not make it seem extremely enticing, one could do without it.
Upon discovering this to be the secret, companies B, made a change with regards to their brands trademark. And claimed to have effected so much change on their product. They claimed to have improved on their product, by enhancing it's quality, to make it possessive of 'supernatural benefits', as they termed it. When the customers discovered that, they became curios to derive that kind of benefit, and could not wait to purchase it. They succeeded in convincing them to believe it was now of more quality than company A's. The desire to derive the benefits, motivated them to patronize the company. Infact the patronage was so tremendous, more than they have ever received, and more than company A had ever received.
Company B, could not have become successful if they continued with their ineffective strategy or method. They became successful by imitating the unique and efficacious method of company A.
Until they discovered it, they never succeeded. But once they did, they were halfway to achieving success.
MORAL FOR THE BUSINESS MAN
Therefore, you would have to adopt the methods that successful business men have adopted that proved efficacious. Doing this requires discovering them and applying them. When you do, as logic and human experience have proved, you would surely succeed, for imitation of the successful makes one successful.
